Studies have confirmed what mothers have always known — fetal movement is a sign of fetal well-being. Along with prenatal care, proper diet and exercise, keeping track of your baby’s movement should become part of your regular routine while pregnant.
Here’s how it’s done:
- Start your “kick counts” daily after 30 weeks.
- One to two hours after a regular meal, lie in bed on your left side and count 5 movements an hour. Focus on your baby, and ask not to be disturbed.
- If the count is less than 5 try again for a second hour. If it is still less than 5 go to Labor and Delivery at Presby Flower Mound Hospital. Labor and Delivery nurses will place you on the fetal monitor and call the “on call” midwife or doctor.
